Alexis Provenz: The Lacrosse Player

Being in the Top 20 of your graduating class is a remarkable accomplishment. But being in the Top 20 on top of doing many extracurricular activities is even more amazing. That is what Alexis Provenz was able to accomplish in high school, as she was ranked number 17 in her graduating class.

Provenz, as mentioned previously, was involved in many extracurricular activities. She was involved in Varsity Club, Science Research Club, Science Club, Outdoor Garden Club, as well as many sports. These sports included soccer, lacrosse, and basketball where she played at the varsity level for each.

She is most well known and has had the most success on the lacrosse field, as she committed to play Division 1 lacrosse at Marist this fall, and will be majoring in Biomedical Sciences.

Provenz notes that some of her favorite classes in high school were AP Bio, College Sculpture, and AP World History. She even notes Mr. Polochak was one of her favorite teachers, saying, “Mr. Polochak was always so enthusiastic and cared about each student. He loves his job which makes him a great teacher and inspires the students to be passionate about the subject”.

Senior year is a very challenging, yet rewarding year. But it was especially challenging this year with remote learning, as the COVID-19 pandemic began back in March of Provenz’s junior year. Provenz has since moved back to full in person learning but had some challenges with remote learning. “Not being able to see my teachers and friends in class, which helps me stay focused and helps me understand the work better”.

Lindenhurst High School has provided all of the students in the Top 20 with very valuable life lessons. Provenz points to all of the extracurricular activities and AP classes to have helped her learn how to manage her time as well as being able to keep up with her personal life.

She also learned many valuable lessons during the shutdown last year due to COVID-19. Provenz says she learned how to stay motivated during the uncertain time. Many students tended to slack off during this time, with assignments being given everyday. But she managed to stay on top of all her work as well as doing many other things, like painting, which she says is one of her hobbies. These habits and her work ethic landed her in the Top 20 of her graduating class and will get her in a very good spot in the future.
