Kaitlyn Taveras: The Future Neuroscientist

Ranking at number 19 in the top 20 Lindenhurst High School senior with the highest academic performance is Kaitlyn Taveras. Achieving this is an astounding achievement in itself, nevertheless for some students this may be a greater feat to accomplish because it’s the new class of 2021, the one year anniversary of Covid-19. Nonetheless there was still an excellent amount of effort put into her fulfillment.

Kaitlyn describes the hardest part as “was trying to stay focused and on task while staring at a computer all day every day” however she overcame it “putting myself in a positive environment that promotes learning and focus.”

Besides that Kaitlyn enjoys drawing, painting, and learning about astrology. During Covid, she got into making jewelry. While on the category of academics, her favorites were Living Environment, Pre-Calculus, and Design and Draw. She was also involved in the National Honors Society and the Key Club.

Whilst her high school career Kaitlyn learned, “Numbers don’t really matter at the end of the day as long as you put your best foot forward and try your hardest. The amount of work you put into school will always pay off in some way shape or form. Grades and tests do not define you.” To all of the students stumped during Covid 19 Kaitlyn advises, “Nothing can stop you when you have your mind set on something. Just because outside factors are trying to bring you down does not mean you have to let them win. A pandemic can’t stop you if you don’t let it stop you.”

In the future she sees herself in a decade sees herself “traveling the world, and having a job, possibly as a doctor, and just enjoying life”. She is going to collage at Northeastern University with a Behavioral Neuroscience major to possibly do that. Kaitlyn would love to thank her mother who inspired her “because she worked really hard to get where she is today and despite that she never stopped enjoying life and making the best out of everything, “ and Mrs. Katsionis, Kaitlyn’s 10th grade science teacher who “felt like she made learning fun for the first time.”
