Grace Barbara: The Soccer Star
Ranked number 4 in her class, Grace Barbara is clearly a greatly accomplished member of the senior class of 2021. Majoring in Biology, Grace will be continuing her education at either Northeastern University or Binghamton University.
As did most of her classmates, Grace found online learning challenging at times. She found challenge in not physically being in a classroom, and that her focus often shifted. “It is so easy to get distracted at home, and in order to ensure that I stay focused, I always make myself wake up and get ready as if I was actually going to school and then sit with everything prepared at my desk for each class.” The pandemic has also made Grace work more on time management. “The biggest challenge I faced was feeling overwhelmed with the workload I had on some days. It all comes down to time management, which is something I’m still working on”, says Grace.
After she graduates this year, Grace’s legacy will continue to thrive at Lindenhurst High School. She prides herself in being greatly involved in extracurricular activities such as Varsity Soccer, badminton, National Honor Society, Interact Club, and many more. Her favorite classes at LHS were AP Biology and AP World. Grace’s AP Biology teacher, Mr. Polochak, has perhaps left the greatest impact on her. “The way that he taught pushed me to always put the most effort possible into everything I do”.
The most important thing that Grace learned at her time at LHS is that “never be afraid to ask questions and to make the most of the opportunities given to you”. We hope that Grace keeps listening to her own advice in college, taking every that comes her way.
