Heroes Helping Every Day
Superheroes are not the only heroes that you can see, there are also everyday heroes.
On November 24, 1926 residents of Lindenhurst presented a petition to the board to try and form a fire company to protect the southern part of the village. On December 6, 1926 it was decided the company would be known as Hook, Ladder & Engine Co. At their first meeting on January 13, 1927, a decision was made to find and show a site for the firehouse south of Montauk Highway. Union Hook & Ladder Company purchased a lot in Babylon Park, on Adams Avenue, at the sum of one dollar per year. That December, the company had a children’s Christmas party that turned into a tradition for years and years.
The Lindenhurst fire Department has had 59 chiefs in the past and the current chiefs are Michael DeGregorio, David Collens, Robert Santos, and Jonathan Cutolo. Today the fire engines have changed from hand powered to gas powered trucks. The hand engine was the first fire truck, the Lady Warren was made in 1891, The third fire truck was the Hose Cart in 1907. The Gasoline Pumper was the forth fire truck made in 1910. In 1920 they made the Auto Pumper, in 1922 they made the Pierce Arrow, in 1926 they made the American Lafrance. in 1948 they made the 1948 American Lafrance, in 1968 they made the 1968 Seagrave, in 1990 they made the 1990 Grumman, in 2019 they made the 2019 Rosenbauer. In 1891 the Villages name was changed to Lindenhurst
Even though some people might say that Captain America or iron man is a real hero. Some people think you can only be a hero if you can fly, or climb on a wall like spider-man. Only our real heroes can be seen on any day, at any time.
