Minions: Rise of Gru
Minions: Rise of Gru is the fourth movie in the timeless Despicable Me franchise. A retro chic vibe sets the scene for the uprising of Gru’s character. This loony marathon will keep children laughing for the whole movie. Audiences have said that this movie is not the best in the franchise, but it still has the colorfulness the fans were looking for.
To set the scene, it’s the 1970s; a time of big hair, flared jeans, and groovy discos. Gru (voiced by Steve Carrell) is a super-fan of a villain group called The Vicious 6. After the leader of the group Wild Knuckles (voiced by Alan Arkin) goes missing, the group needs a new villain. Gru believes he is evil enough to join the Vicious 6. Reluctantly, he gets help from the mischief-making minions.
We’re introduced to a new minion in this movie. His name is Otto; a happy little people pleaser with braces. Gru’s main minions in this movie; Stuart, Bob, Kevin, and Otto, assist Gru in building his first evil lair, experiment and create his first weapons, and begin his first missions.
Gru goes to the interview to become a new member of the Vicious 6, and let’s just say it doesn’t go too well. However, this defeat only makes Gru stronger. He outsmarts the villain group and finds himself in the spot of the mortal enemy of the group. On the run from the Vicious 6, he seeks guidance, unexpectedly from Wild Knuckles. Eventually, he discovers that even villains need help from a friend.
This movie is great for a younger audience as it is filled with laughs, love, and minions. Minions: Rise of Gru came out in July of 2022, but you can find it on streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime Video or even a DVD.
