Trick or Treat on Charles Street

LHS Clubs and Classes Create Great Activities for Local Kids

Nancy Rodriguez, Free Lance Writer

Spirits were soaring as Trick or Treat on Charles Street took place once again this year. Clubs and classes created great hallways, classrooms and activities for the kids that came to the event. The event lets kids enjoy a phenomenal night of trick or treating in a safer school environment. They came in a variety of different costumes that brought smiles on everybody’s faces. It was a night you couldn’t forget.

To start off, there was much competition between the classes and the clubs. The winners for classes was the Juniors with their Charlie Brown Halloween theme. Next was the the Seniors with their Alice in Wonderland theme. Third place went to the Sophomores and finally, Freshman as fourth place. The winners for the clubs was National Art Honor Society with their 50’s Drive In. Next was National Honor Society taking on second place. Finally it was the Italian Club in third place.

National Art Honor Society were the winners of the clubs. They devoted two weeks into trying to perfect their hallway. It was very impressive work. The club advisor, Mrs. Cuzzo, tells her input on the hallway. She said, “The best accomplishment was seeing students come together and work diligently. ” Her favorite costume she saw on a child was one where a child and their mother dressed up as Hannibal Lector. The club decided that this year, their goal would be to allow the kids to enjoy themselves. In the past, they have made their hallways way scarier than the kids could handle. They decided to change it up. The president of National Art Honor Society is Marissa Angier. She put in 100% effort into the hallway. She and a few other members stayed up until 11:40 p.m. at school trying to do as much work as they could. Marissa’s favorite costume on a child was one where a kid was dressed up as Pennywise the clown from the new movie It. She says, “Seeing kids enjoying our artwork and creations was a great feeling.”

Student Council runs the events for all the other clubs and classes. Mrs. Scharf, the club advisor, gives her input on Trick or Treat on Charles Street. Her favorite costume on a child was where a toddler was dressed up as Simba from Lion King. The overall event gave her such a warm feeling. She states, “I thought it went wonderful this year. Former students, parents, current students and many children came. It was great to see high school students get involved for entertaining our elementary kids.”

The clubs provided a variety of different activities for the children. National Art Honor Society created a very cool activity. They had a room where they placed a few of fake 50’s style cars made out of cardboard. The kids were able to get into the cars and watch Frankenstein the 50’s movie. Student Council provided an activity for the children. They placed a little bowling alley for them. The bowling pins resembled candy corn too. The ski club provided their activity. It was more towards the older kids though. It was a haunted house and a very good one apparently. Many high school kids came in as groups or pairs to witness the thrill of the haunted house. There was high school students as actors who sat down inside the haunted house while banging on wood with a hammer resulting in an alarming banging sound while going through the haunted house.

Overall, this event was very amazing. It was such a sight. Kids ran around with candy in bags! The halls were decorated for Halloween and people truly loved it. It really showed Lindy school spirit at its finest.
