An Evening of Dance Continues as a Tradition of Excellence
May 18, 2018
On Tuesday March 27th, the members of the Lindenhurst Dance Ensemble performed at the 14th annual “Evening of Dance.” We couldn’t have done this without Mrs. Lyons who is the dance teacher here at the highschool. Dance 1 and Dance 2 classes performed a variety of different dances. This evening included great dancing, a variety of music selections, and unique costumes. Members of the middle school dance program were in the show as well. The bright stage lights really made the dancers stand out.
The audience enjoyed the upbeat music. Each dance is very unique and sends a message to the audience. Some dances even included a prop of choice. The dancers worked very hard in class to put on this performance. A lot of time and effort was needed for these dances. These dances include a lot of technique which is practiced and perfected on in class. There many performances and a variety of different styles of dancing such as lyrical, jazz, hip-hop, etc. The show began with a song called “There’s Nothing.”
“Holding Me Back” by Shawn Mendes was performed by Mrs. Lyons’ Dance 2 class. This was a very upbeat and fun number. Dance 1 performed a number called “Handclap.” The audience members got involved by clapping along to the beat. This dance was filled with fast movements and many tricks. “Ramalama” was a dance number that gave off a spooky feeling. The dancers were portrayed as robot like figures and their movements emphasized that as they were moving around. The audience seem to enjoy this number as well. This dance was filled with fast movements and many tricks. As the night went on, there were also more slower dances. The movements in these dances were very graceful and pleasant. The “Evening of Dance” truly showed how hard each and every dancer works and it was truly their night to shine.
