Nikki Huang Ranked 18th in the Class of 2019
Nickey Huang: The Pharmacologist
Ranked number 18 in the top 20, Nickey Huang has gone through four years of hard work and determination to earn her ranking.
Nickey has shared her experience as a senior so far. She reveals that although she’s a senior, she still has the motivation to work hard and be consistent. Nickey “doesn’t really feel much ‘senioritis,’ I still try very hard and work hard, but I’m excited to graduate.” She explains that during senior year, she feels excited yet scared for what comes next. She describes her senior year as “empowering, fun, and scary but exciting at the same time.”
Some of Nickey’s extracurricular activities include four years of Key Club, three years of National Honor Society, and four years of varsity badminton and band. Outside of these activities and clubs, Nickey enjoys “staying home and watching movies or TV shows or going out shopping.”
In terms of the future, Nickey plans on “going to medical school, becoming a pharmacologist and researching drugs.” And in ten years, Nickey sees herself as a doctor. Hard work wasn’t the only thing that helped Nickey achieve her ranking. Nickey thanks her older sister for guidance and inspiration throughout her four years of high school. “My sister inspires me because she’s always worked very hard. She’s five years older than me and has always guided me through everything, since my parents aren’t here.”
It is evident that Nickey Huang will have a successful future as a doctor, due to her hard work, perseverance and determination throughout high school!
Efrain Laguna: The NHS President
Efrain Laguna has achieved a very high rank among his peers, through his hard work he has the honor of being ranked seventeenth in his graduating class of 2019
For a Top Twenty student, extracurriculars as well as grades are very important. Throughout school, Efrain has participated in many extracurricular activities, such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, Global Goals, and was the Track Team’s Captain. He also enjoys going for runs, hanging out with friends, going to the beach, and surfing.
When asked where he saw himself in 10 years, he said “I would see myself travelling the world and helping people, probably in Europe.” For a career Efrain wants to work in global health, possibly with Doctors Without Borders. With all these aspirations, you need inspirations, and according to Efrain “The people who have inspired me are my advisers, and Coach Lombardo.”
Efrain describes his senior year as “fast, memorable, and exciting.” With such a busy year, he has made many memories in Lindenhurst High School. Efrain has said the things he will miss most are friends, activities, and extracurriculars. Some of his favorite classes were AP Bio because of the great teachers and field trips, AP U.S. History, and his Spanish courses.
High school isn’t just a time for academic learning, but also a time when people learn more about themselves. Important things he has learned is that “throughout high school, you change a lot, and in many ways you come out of it a completely different person”.
For all of his efforts and achievements, Efrain wants to thank his family, teachers, and coaches.
