Middle School Junior Journalist
Jennifer Kelly, Adviser
The CST staff has paired with the Lindenhurst Middle School’s #BulldogNews program to develop a Junior Journalist Program. This program is designed to give the eighth grade middle school students a chance to see their work published on the High School Newspaper. The hard working students of Mrs. Moore’s #Bulldog News course selected their favorite article to submit to the CST. The dedicated CST journalists edited and formatted their work for the website, and the result is another successful collaboration of news writing students!
Lindy Middle School 2019 Football Season Highlights
The 2019 football season for the green team was not exactly the best this year. We only won one game out of nine. However, the green team plays some of the toughest teams in the league. One of the best highlights of the season was the first game vs. Copiague. We did really well and we worked the ball down the field and were playing good defense. Unfortunately, that was a game that I hurt my knee, ...
How to Survive an Italian Thanksgiving
Step 1: DO NOT go in the kitchen when your parents are preparing the food because you don’t want to hear “esci dalla cucina adesso” (which means "Get out of the kitchen now!"). It’s very important that they cook good food for the family, for we only see them on the holidays. One mess up, and it's all over. My Nonna goes on and on about this wedding 14 years ago that had horrib...
Do We Really Need Homework?
My Opinion Kids should not have to go home and do hours of homework each night. This puts unneeded stress on kids that we don´t want. Kids should be able to go home and relax and recharge for the next day. Homework takes family time away. For example, instead of talking to their family at the dinner table, kids are worried about finishing their homework. We go to school for ...
My Opinion On Hamilton!
What Is Hamilton? To all those who don’t know the musical Hamilton is a musical about Alexander Hamilton and the Revolutionary War. A bit of information about Alexander is that he was born on January 11th, 1755 and was one of the founding fathers for America. A tiny bit about the Revolutionary War is that it was a time when British colonists fought for independence and rebelled...

Is Starting School Early Affecting Teens?
Should school start later than 7 or 8 am? As you go into different grades each year and you enter the middle or high school each year you have to go in earlier. Should this stop? Starting school later helps students combat the symptoms of sleep deprivation, depression, and memory impairment. Sleep deprivation can be linked to drug and alcohol abuse and higher suicide rates. You can see...

Should the Import Law Still Exist, or Should it be Repealed?
In 1988, The Imported Vehicle Safety Compliance Act was made to prevent people from importing cars not originally sold in the U.S. The law pretty much means that any car that isn't twenty-five years or older, cannot be brought into the United States. Right now that’s cars made after the year 1995. Cars after 1995 are the R34 Nissan GTR, and the Nissan Silvia S15. The reason this law was made was somewhat ...
Should College Athletes Get Paid?
In any college sport, players do not get paid. Some people argue that college athletes should at least be able to market themselves to get money since their coaches don't allow them to make money. College athletes should get paid with all the work they do. This brings up the first reason, without college players, the college wouldn't be able to produce any money. Many people attend these event...
Do Participation Trophies Cause More Harm Than Good?
Many people believe that children should receive participation trophies. They believe that being rewarded for playing their sport can positively affect their personal development. When I was a little kid, I felt that getting participation trophies made me feel good about myself. It made me feel like I was getting rewarded for my hard work. Kids are shown how good it is to be a member of a team, an...

What are the toughest issues teenagers face?
Being a teen is difficult from my perspective. But I wondered what happens when you ask other teenagers from their perspective. So that's what I did, I asked 25 boys and 25 girls in the 8th grade for a total of 50 students. I tallied up the most common answers, and put them in order from most said to least said. There were some silly answers and some serious ones. Some will make you laugh and so...
Does Class Size Matter?
Everyone has different opinions on if they like small or larger class sizes better. I went around my school and decided to interview three teachers, two students, and add my opinion as well.. Two of the teachers I interviewed are in a class I have with a large number of students, and one teacher teaches a class with a small number of students. I went to my Science teacher and my English teacher for an o...

Adults that are in their late thirties or forties grew up in the 80's - and they know their music. Teens also know their music, but do they know each other's music? Do adults listen to today's top hits or the music they grew up with as a teen? Do teens acknowledge their parents’ music or just listen to today's hits? Seasonal Affective Disorder
Instead of calling it winter depression, the actual term is referred to as Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD. This condition is most frequently brought upon people during the late fall season and early winter because less sunlight is available. The condition is very common and often times can occur around the same time every year. Obviously there are ways to treat this condition. There are a few medical techniques and many are simpler methods to make you feel...
My Favorite Winter Memory
My favorite winter memory was when I was 10. It was a snow day so we didn't have school. In the morning I woke up getting ready for school, but then I heard my sister Kalyn shout in excitement because on the news it showed Lindenhurst had a snow day. When I heard her say that, I was very excited. I woke up my brother Chris and told him that we had a snow day. When I told him he jumped out of bed a...
