What The Holiday 2020 Season Means To Me

What The Holiday 2020 Season Means To Me

Can’t we all agree at this point in the year that the start of a new decade was just overwhelming? 2020 has been one the largest curve balls life has thrown at individuals, including myself. So much has happened in a short amount of time that all we want is this year to be over and anticipating to start fresh with 2021. Although a lot went on, it definitely was a year full of teaching moments. Approaching this holiday season has me in a different mindset than I would usually be in.

Typically the day after Thanksgiving, I am already in that Christmas-Holiday vibe. December 1st is a couple of days away and here I am jamming out to Christmas songs while decorating my room. So much excitement goes on throughout those last couple of weeks before Christmas, but this year is a bit unusual. For some reason, I didn’t feel the holiday spirit so it felt weird to put up the tree and lights around the house. Having it decorated now obviously gives off more excitement, but it’s still not the same as every other year. What this year has taught me most is to be thankful for everything that you have. Anything unexpected can come at any moment, so it’s important to cherish at all times. Typically I have a couple of things I would like for Christmas, but this year I didn’t even know what I wanted or what to ask for. Realizing all the crazy stuff that went on this year just makes me want my family and I to be safe. Nothing else is really important when it comes down to times like these.

Being grateful is something that should always be considered, not just when traumatizing things occur. 2020 has definitely been a life teaching experience. During a normal (school) year, we would have the opportunity to physically come to school, socialize with our friends, and actually be motivated to learn. However, with the rules that have to be followed, I appreciate all the good that is still left. We are still able to come to school, just every other day. I am definitely thankful to still get an education even though it is remote. Most importantly, we have our loved ones by our sides. Thankfully, we are near the end of 2020. We can only hope to have a better start for the new year as well as getting back to normal as soon as we can!
