Alexander Snit: The Computer Wiz

Alexander Snit, ranked number three in the class of 2021, has been able to achieve remarkably high academic standards all throughout his high school career.

Snit is obviously an outstanding student, taking AP courses and clearly thriving in all of them. When he was asked what his favorite was, his choice was AP Physics, which is also the class with his most impactful teacher from his years at LHS, Mr. Tonn. Another favorite class of his was computer science, which he plans on concentrating in when he enrolls at Stony Brook University in the fall. Alex has continued to have success even through the unparalleled times that we found ourselves in over the past year, even with all of the changes he has had to make to his routine for school.

Alex said repeatedly that he has had to adapt to all of the obstacles that he has had thrown his way in the past year. His best way to make sure that he stays on top of his work to maintain his outstanding grades is to “google videos of the lesson to understand what is being taught.” Also, he mentioned how he had a hard time at the beginning of the year paying attention to his teachers from home and staying focused on the lessons and assignments he was given. It has been hard for everyone with the remote and hybrid learning that we have been forced to endure, but clearly Alex has done a great job in navigating the challenges and still thriving.

Outside of class, Alex is also very involved in extracurricular activities. He is involved in the National Honor Society, Science Club, International Club, and is a member of the varsity fencing team. Participating in activities outside of school is something that he said was the most important lesson that he learned while at LHS, “how to make friends and socialize”. Alex has taken advantage of all of the opportunities this school offers to kids to get involved in school activities, which he said has helped him greatly in meeting new people and finding himself. He kept up with his favorite activities outside of school even throughout the past year, which has been a very tough challenge for him to endure.

When asked what the most important lesson he learned during this pandemic, Alex’s answer was that “it is important to take care of yourself”. These hard times have been hard for everyone to deal with, however Alex has found ways to keep his mind busy. Although he loves to travel, it was something that was almost impossible to do with the spread of COVID, he turned to sports and technology to fill his time, which are some of his other favorite hobbies.

Transitioning from high school to college should be fairly easy for Alex, considering how successful he has been during his time at LHS and the good chance that it continues. He left his mark here, and he will certainly be missed. Alex has a bright future ahead of him, and he will certainly capitalize on that.
