Mr. Spinaris

Mr. Spinaris is a new teacher at Lindenhurst High School.  He is part of the technology department! I had a interview with Mr. Spinaris and here are his answers!

Why did you become a teacher?

“I had a great tech teacher and he really helped me figure out who I was and during that process I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do. My teacher knew I was a social person and encouraged me to become a tech teacher.”

How much do you want to know about your students in order to be most helpful to them?

“I would like to know a lot about them and previous experiences, like sports and bring up their hobbies to be easier for them.”

Do you like receiving jokes or saying jokes or both?

“I like saying both and joking around a lot. I like to have fun in the room and I’m a very laid back person.”

Where do you see yourself in five years?

“Hopefully still here and developing the technology department and making it one of the best departments in NY.”

What’s your favorite book or series?

“I would say “cradle to cradle” it’s a very cool book and because it talks about how we should engineer for the good of the people, it’s like a thinking type of a book.”

How do you motivate your students to learn?

“I like to motivate engaging conversation to show what real words are used for and connect to it and fun projects etc to get them excited to understand more. For example, I’m trying to buy a project car for them to work on.”

What do you like best about teaching?

“I love seeing the moments where students understand what I teach and to hear back from the students on what they accomplished and really help students move forward and plan their lives or career.”

What is your favorite movie? And if you can answer, what movie do you think relates to your life or self in some way?

“Favorite movie would be the Star Wars saga. It doesn’t matter which one. Happy Gilmore because at first he was a little stubborn and once he learned to adapt to become better, his teacher helped him to get out of the stubborn thinking and which direction to go in life.”
