Leadership Honor Scholarship

Nicolina Bilella

The long three year wait after Mitski’s album Be The Cowboy, she recently released her new album Laurel Hell, which contains her new song, “Love Me More”.

It can be said that “Love Me More” can possess a large audience with it’s universal themes of loneliness and love.  Those themes sound like they shouldn’t mesh together, however Mitski takes the challenge and nails it.  She uses her unique choice of somber lyrics mixed with an instrumental that would give even a Gen-Z’er a flashback to the 80s.  Yet, there is still a personalized feel contrary to 80s artists such as Madonna, Aerosmith, or Tears for Fears.

The mix of lyrics and instrumental may be jarring at first, but I have grown to enjoy “Love Me More”.  Another breathtaking aspect is the music video, although it is not revolutionary, it perfectly displays the complexity of her song and her music in general and the set design is beautiful.

If you haven’t experienced “Love Me More”, I recommend you listen to it and watch the music video.
