Tame Impala, psychedelic rock artist, released a new song called “No Choice.” “No Choice” is a song about how he feels like he is living the same life day to day with no excitement or change whatsoever. He has no choice to change his life. The instrumentation affects the feeling or mood of the song because the instrumentation loops over and over again, and is more upbeat. It leaves listeners with a feeling of upbeat repetitiveness. There is a repetitiveness to the song. The repeating tempo affects the mood because it is repetitive, presenting listeners with the representation of the same rhythms over and over. The same rhythm correlates with his constant, no choice loop of life. The singer’s style is psychedelic rock with a futuristic sound to his music. The song feels like an escape from reality while bringing the feeling of repetitiveness as it plays. The style affects the feeling or mood of the song by making it feel as if it is an alternative reality in a sense, yet it relates to how you are feeling in the present. The futuristic feel brings a sense of disassociation, while the present feeling relates to how the listener feels.  The intended audience for this music is for people who can relate to it on a personal level. People who can relate to having that feeling of having no choice but to live a life on a constant loop without any exciting unexpected circumstances. It gives them something to listen to as they release those emotions and connections to the song as it plays. When analyzing the lyrics, the theme of boredom and seeking for more are present. He talks about how “life is a chore,” and that “there must be something more.” Relating to life being a handful and the yearning for something more than what we are given. The lyrics are relatable to a large audience. People feel as if they are stuck in the same situation on a daily basis, with no exciting twists or turns to spice their life up, and remove them from their joyless daily regime. The “hook” of the song is memorable because it repeats itself over and over again, therefore it becomes ingrained in your head. That makes it catchy due to the repetitiveness of the lyrics and the message behind them. The music is made in present day times, it reaches out and relates to people who feel like they are living in a constant loop. Having music to relate to is very helpful and helps emotions you are feeling not get bottled up. It is a release of emotion when you can relate to a song personally. You learned that even though life can feel repetitive and it can be frustrating at times, like the song says, you can take it farther and go on to interpret that you have to take what you have and work to make your life more interesting. You have to take the stride to bring that interestingness into your life that you seek. The futuristic feel of psychedelic rock feels like an escape from reality. Overall, Tame Impala’s “No Choice” is an upbeat song that is recommended for all!
