Saraphine Morello

“Love Me More” is an upbeat yet dramatic song. The song demonstrates feelings of hopelessness and desperation because of the lyrics itself. The lyrics itself are repetitive, however she tells a story with the tempo by setting a specific mood. The tempo makes the listener feel on edge as if something more is coming. Mitski states “ Here’s my hand, there’s an itch but I’m not supposed to scratch” and “If I keep myself at home I won’t make the same mistake.” This shows that she’s trying to escape a situation that she knows isn’t good for her, however, she can’t seem to let go of it.

After you listen to her previous tracks, it’s anticipated that this is Mitski’s attempt to make pop music. The repetitive lyrics and upbeat tempo suggest that it’s a pop song. The hook of this song is catchy and memorable which makes more people want to keep listening, however, the lyrics itself don’t say as much as her other songs. It seems like she was intending on trying to make this a more “popular” track because it’s very different and more shallow than her other music. The lyrics more so relate to a larger audience because it could be perceived by many as a love song with the chorus being “I need you to love me more.”

The instrumental of the song also has more of an 80’s and disco sound to it. This could attract an older audience to her music and also bring more people to listen. It’s definitely a fun upbeat tune and it’s memorable so it will attract a large audience. It’s different from her previous music so it seems like she’s trying something new to get more listeners. It’s a catchy and enjoyable tune that anyone can listen to.
