Tick, Tick...BOOM!

Tick, Tick…BOOM!

The top movie of 2021 that is Academy Award worthy is “tick, tick.. BOOM!” This film is Academy Award worthy, because it brings Jonathan Larson’s musical to life. It is a musical semi-autobiography created by Jonathan Larson, the composer of “Rent.” The movie begins with Jonathan Larson turning 30, and struggling to get a musical he has been working on for eight years brought into the light. He struggles with money, relationships, a second act for his play, and a roommate who is moving out and has fallen ill. The title of the musical relates to how he is feeling and the pressure he is faced with. The main character is Jonathan, played by Andrew Garfield. He is a very outgoing character, with a vast amount of confidence, ambition, and frustration, as his dystopian, sci-fi musical that he has been creating for the past eight years has some trouble getting off the ground. The film’s message is to never give up on your dreams, because one day, when you least expect it, they will come true. The movie relates to life by showing the truth of reality, and that sometimes not everything works out the way you would like it to, but if you keep up the hard work and never give up, something good is bound to come your way. The acting in this movie was spot-on. The emotion was felt and portrayed through both the characters and songs. Whenever a character sang or went through something, you were able to connect with the character and feel the emotion portrayed. The musical soundtrack also stuck out in the movie. It is a musical movie, therefore, there were plenty of songs. The emotion portrayed while characters are singing, especially Jonathan’s character, give an insight to the story and how the characters feel. Overall, “tick, tick, BOOM!” is a fantastic musical movie that is for sure Academy Award worthy.
