CODA

My choice for the Best Picture of 2021 is CODA. CODA(Child of deaf adults) is a movie about Ruby (Emilia Jones) the only hearing person in her all deaf family. As she discovers her love for singing, her family continues to grow in their fishing business. The film focuses on Ruby as she struggles to balance both in her busy life. This movie shows a concept that isn’t really shown in social media which makes it unique. The message of the movie can be interpreted in many different ways but consistent themes that I saw throughout the movie were not wanting to be labeled, being seen for who you are, and family.

Some things that stood out to me in the movie were the characters, the humor, and the acting. The acting was something that especially stood out to me. Each time one of the characters had a heartfelt or even comedic scene you could always feel the emotions through the screen and that resonated with me. The representation for the deaf community was also something that I found insightful. It was interesting to see so many different perspectives from the different characters in the movie. Overall CODA deserves to win this years Best Picture because of the acting, comedy, and representation
