Lindenhurst is the hometown of a lot of people, from the Secoutage and Masapeaqua tribes, to the people you may know living there. The name Lindenhurst came from the Linden trees that were planted. A long time ago, Lindenhurst used to be a home for the Native American tribes. The area was then called Neguntatogue, which means “forsaken land.”
The first Native Americans in Lindenhurst were the Secatogue and Massapequa tribes. They roamed around Lindenhurst in search of food.
