Mrs. VonGerichten

Every year there’s more new faces to learn in the Lindenhurst High School such as incoming freshmen and new teachers! As the 2022-2023 school year begins the journalists of the Charles Street Times took the opportunity to interview these new teachers and get to know them just a bit better! One of these teachers, being Mrs. VonGerichten, a new Regular Math teacher.

What subject do you teach this year?

Math Regular

Where did you go to college/school?

Wagner College for Undergrad, Fordham University for Grad School.

What’s your favorite movie/tv show?

Favorite Movie- 7 Pounds, Favorite Show- Criminal Minds

What inspired you to become a teacher? How did you know you wanted to be a teacher?

My day camp inspired me to be a teacher. I’ve been working/ going there for 20 years and I love working with kids!

What do you like about Lindy so far?

I LOVE Lindy! I love the community and how passionate everyone is.

How long have you been into (whatever subject)?

I always loved Math as a High Schooler but originally went to school for Theater Performance. I fell back in love with math when I took Discrete Math to fill a requirement for college and then ended up switching my major.

Outside of school, what are your hobbies?

My hobbies are making candles, soccer and singing.

What are your goals as a teacher?

I want to foster a sense of community in my classroom. I want to implement a lot of real world projects and hands-on learning into my classroom.

What is one of the best things about becoming/being a teacher?

The best thing is to see your students grow over a period of time.

What is one of the best pieces of advice you have received when it comes to being a teacher?

This may sound cheesy but to “Make them believe they can” and I try to come into class every day showing my students they can do anything if they set their minds to it. It’s really stuck with me.

What makes a good teacher in your perspective?

A good teacher is someone who does not give up on their students, who tries new things and is able to admit their own mistakes. Someone who is not only there for the love of the content they’re teaching but for the love of their students and how they grow and learn as a whole.
