Don’t Worry Darling

My favorite movie throughout the year of 2022 was Don’t Worry Darling, directed by Olivia Wilde. It was showcased in theaters on September 23, 2022. This movie is a psychological thriller in which Florence Pugh stars. Florence Pugh is one of the reasons this movie was great. She is a brilliant and talented 29 year old English actress. Pugh played the role of Alice, she was the lead. However, Florence did have a co-star, Harry Styles. Styles is new to his acting career as he is also a worldwide popular singer. He was a former member of the boyband One Direction. He played Jack Chambers, Alice’s husband.

Don’t Worry Darling’s setting revolves around an idealized community called Victory, where Jack and Alice live in the 1950’s. This community has a set structure where the men go to work every day on a top secret project run by a man named Frank, played by actor Chris Pine. As the men are at their job, their wives are meant to take care of the household chores such as cleaning and cooking for their husbands to arrive home to. This seemingly perfect lifestyle is not as perfect as it looks. Alice starts to question Victory and the depths of the town. She noticed odd and unusual behaviors, almost like glitches in her life. Since there were certain grounds that women were unable to go past, Alice rebelled once she began “hallucinating” because she thought she saw unusual things and needed to investigate them. This altered the way she viewed things in her life going forward.

As the movie progresses, missing pieces begin to be filled in and it starts to make more sense. One of my favorite things about this movie is the way that it makes your head spin and shocks you in the end. There is much controversy on the quality of this movie, but in my opinion it was a good movie, although I understand people’s reasoning for their dislike of it. There were many loose ends left and it was up to you to figure them out with your theories.
Overall, I believe the movie had an exhilarating factor and it was stimulating in a way. There were many plot twists and it allows for discussion because you could have various opinions and theories about it. The actors did a phenomenal job and are what made this movie so lively.
