Purple Hearts

My favorite movie from 2022 was Purple Hearts starring Sofia Carson. Purple Hearts is based on the premise that two young adults who pretend to be together for health benefits and money. Sofia Carson, who plays Cassie Salazar, is a Type One diabetic who doesn’t have the insurance to cover her insulin. Nicholas Galitzine plays Luke Morrow who is an ex-drug addict enlisted in the marines, trying to pay off his debts from old drug dealers. At first they cannot stand the idea of each other and are very wary in case they get caught. Luke’s father is a retired military officer, so breaking this law goes against everything he believes. Luke and Cassie are polar opposites. Cassie is a Liberal who has different beliefs than Luke because he is a Republican. Over time, sparks fly and they begin to fall in love. Luke was injured during war and Cassie had to take care of him, which brought them together. Inevitably Luke gets arrested because he was convicted of getting married illegally. He took the blame for Cassie and her charges were dropped. After he spends time in jail they end up in a happy life together. This movie brings tears to your eyes and has a great climax. It was suspenseful and I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. Sofia Carson portrayed her character so well.
