Everything Everywhere All At Once

Last month, I watched the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once. This film didn’t stand out to me at first glance, but once I started watching it, I quickly changed my mind. It starts off as a normal Chinese family who owns a laundromat. The mom, Evelyn, is constantly stressed about paying their taxes while her husband, Waymond, is the complete opposite and carefree. Their daughter, Joy, is distant with her parents and feels like a burden to her mom.

There’s a moment in the movie where Evelyn is at the IRS building and enters the elevator. There, she encounters Alpha Waymond for the first time. Alpha-Waymond tells Evelyn that there are multiple parallel universes, where she is killed by the same person in each one. Evelyn doesn’t get much time between universes. Alpha-Waymond gives Evelyn Verse Jumping Technology to gain special powers, and jump from universe to universe. This is needed to defeat Jobu Tupaki, the person who is constantly killing her, and the plot twist blows my mind.

This movie has many exciting scenes that are always leave you stunned. Seeing how one person can be so different in a another universe is fascinating to think about. My favorite moments where when Evelyn began to realize how much she truly loved her husband, Waymond. The message behind this movie is that trauma can be put onto the others you love whether you mean it or not.

I really enjoyed this movie and would recommend it to anyone who likes sci-fi and comedy.
