While most kids tend to stay up late, they may neglect the sky above.  Although that’s not expected even with adults, people still tend to focus on the different full moons.

The September Moon has a few names including the Full Corn Moon, the Barley Moon, and the Harvest Moon.  All of these names revolve around the fall harvest when, according to harvesttotable.com, beets, carrots, radishes, turnips, and cauliflower are harvested.

This year the moon appears on September 20th.  Wrbl.com describes mythological tales which state the Harvest Moon’s light would assist farmers in days later where the Moon produced less light.

It seems to emerge as a large orange ball, however earthsky.org describes the hue as an illusion. It’s called the Moon Illusion and the site links a video explaining it and it advise readers to Google it.  The video talks about a trick of the eyes that makes the moon appear larger.  If you are interested on the subject watch their video or take their advice.

Keep an eye out for the Harvest Moon!
