Hawkeye Episodes 1 and 2 Review

Tyler Faber, Staff Writer

Hawkeye is a new Marvel show on Disney+. Over the last year, Marvel has released multiple Disney+ shows ranging over different genres and topics, Hawkeye being the latest one to release. The first two episodes of the show were released on November 24th and the remaining episodes will be released weekly on Wednesdays until December 22nd. I’ll be reviewing each episode after they come out.

This week they released the first two episodes of Hawkeye for the debut. It was a good choice since one episode definitely wasn’t enough to introduce the characters and idea of the show. By the end of the second episode, you have a pretty good idea of what the rest of the show will be like. The show follows the two main characters Clint Barton and Kate Bishop in their adventures throughout New York. Kate is a new character to the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and the show does a great job introducing her along with the other new characters. The setting of New York during the winter works well thematically and makes for a great aesthetic. The show has a mix of awkward humor, heartfelt story, and action. Most of the moments that are supposed to be funny don’t seem to go well with the show and it could take itself a little more seriously than it does.

In terms of plot, the show definitely is doing something right. Like most of the other Disney+ shows, the story is clever and has a lot of great elements. However, the show isn’t anything special yet. It follows the basic format that most of the Marvel shows and movies do with nothing setting it aside as a masterpiece. Hopefully as the show progresses something will set it aside from the others but it doesn’t look like it will.  Make sure to tune in next week for the review of episode 3.
