Google Search Trends in 2021

The year 2021 is almost over. Google has organized this year a video showing what the most searched things are. I will be giving my opinion on the first ten of these searches in a sense of reflection, because 18 would be too much. The most searched things are:

“How to heal”

At the beginning of the video, Google starts off emphasizing this search by including it three times. Once in Spanish, once in Indonesian, and once in Russian. After, a clip is played of a woman saying, “I am healing.” I think that this is an extremely important concept because a lot of people are not feeling well, whether mentally or physically. Knowing how to heal can do anything from lifting your mood to saving your life. I think that to heal, specifically mentally, meditation is important. Reviewing your thoughts is an exercise that is crucial to feel a bit better when there’s something on your mind that’s bothering you. 

 

“How to honor someone”

The next search featured in this video is “how to honor someone.” In the video, a British woman says, “I’m here at the memorial wall. I wanted to do something to remember my mom.” Loss is one of the toughest things to go through in life, and honoring someone who you’ve lost is an understandable decision. How to do it is obviously a common issue, as shown by this question. I think that when you lose someone who you care about, you lose something more than just a person and something you could do is to have a funeral, if possible. Another thing I think you can do is to talk to people about what influence they had on your life and the things you remember about them that make you feel like you really had a great figure and it was a privilege that you got to spend time with them.

 

“Will there be another lockdown”

In correspondence to this common Google search, a woman is featured saying, “For some reason, I’m having a lot of anxiety. Obviously it’s normal with everything that’s going on right now.”  The COVID-19 virus has greatly affected the entire world, so it’s not surprising that this is a common search. I don’t think there will be another lockdown, however the anxiety is definitely valid because you never know what will happen.  I believe that whatever does happen, make the most of it and focus on what you can do instead of what you can’t. It is a difficult practice to master, but the dedication will be worth it.

 

“How to take care of your mental health”

The video demonstrates a few points with the quotes they choose. They include a quote from Naomi Osaka saying “I think I’m going to take a break for a while.” Subsequently, there is a quote from Isaac Frere saying “You can get through it. And if you can get through it, there’s a greater reward on the other side.” I feel that these are excellent quotations to choose for this specific search because they indicate ways to take care of your mental health. Taking a break from something can be very relieving and relaxing. Also it can be productive if you come back feeling much better than you did when you decided to take a break because it will help you do a better job at what you do if you have a good headspace. Telling yourself that you will get through something is extremely beneficial because it should force you to feel determined. For example, if you wake up at the beginning of the week and don’t feel particularly well mentally, you can tell yourself that you will get through the week. This will create a goal, and you will be determined to reach that goal because the satisfaction of reaching it will tempt you to do the best you can to reach it. Other points I would make can be seen in the section of “How to heal.”

 

“How to stay strong”

The video doesn’t feature any quotes for this search, but the examples they use for the previous one do apply. Staying strong is a challenge for many people. I think that to stay strong, you need a positive but realistic mindset. Understand that you are capable of whatever there is to achieve, not everything there is to achieve and not achieve. 

 

“Where can I get the vaccine”

The video features someone saying, “just like anybody else, I’m trying to do my little part to try and save my community.” Vaccination is important, and I would recommend getting the vaccine to any it’s available to. Other than that, I don’t have much to say about this.

 

“How to be resilient”

When this search comes on the screen, there is a video of a woman saying, “And I am smiling under my mask!” This is a good representation of this search because it demonstrates how someone can try to make the most of a hard time. I think it’s important to know that not everything will be easy, and just because something might be a challenge doesn’t mean it’s impossible. When you are under a lot of pressure, I think it’s best to refrain from overworking yourself.

 

“How to make a comeback”

The video includes multiple clips of events happening in 2021 that hadn’t been able to happen in a while. It provides examples of comebacks for many people. I think to make a comeback, there has to be a smart approach to hard work. You have to work hard to get better at something you struggle with, but it can be hard to turn a challenge for yourself into self-abuse. I would say make time to practice, but make sure you have enough free time to rest.

 

“How to be yourself”

I don’t have much to say about the clip they chose for this particular search, however I do have a bit to say about this topic. I think to be yourself, you have to find out what you’re like and find a way to be okay with it. Once that happens, it’s important to practice the art of not caring about what others think. This is difficult, but it will reduce the anxiety of feeling like you have to fit in instead of not being yourself. Be ready to deal with people who don’t like it, because they will exist.

 

“What is my purpose”

The audio clip they chose for this search is a quote from Michael K. Williams saying, “Be your best. Never, ever, ever stop dreaming. I don’t care what they tell you.”  This is a very good quote because it’s encouraging and emphasizes the point from the previous search. However, I do have a minor problem with it. Some people may not know what their dreams are, and it’s important to know that it’s okay to not know. Finding a passion is definitely difficult for many people.

 

Conclusion

Those were the 10 most searched things on Google and my personal opinion on each one. The remaining 8 are just as important, however the article would take significantly longer to read and write.
