Mets & Yankees Post Season Chances

Mets & Yankees Post Season Chances

Jackson Messineo, Staff Writer

The Mets and Yankees have had very interesting seasons so far. The two teams have some of the highest payrolls and some of the best players in baseball, so they had very high expectations. Surprisingly, they both succeeded phenomenally, they are both having one of the best seasons in team history. They both dealt with losing their key players mid season, more so the Yankees, but both teams soldiered on, which shows how good both of the teams are. As of the time of writing, the Mets have clinched a spot in the postseason with a record of 94-55, and the Yankees have a record of 88-58, both are in first place in there divisions, and they both hope to keep it that way with the Atlanta Braves and the Tampa Bay Rays catching up. Last season the Mets did horrible considering their expectations with a 77-85 record, the Yankees finished with a record of 92-70 which was tied for second with the Boston Red Sox.

The Yankees actually were expected to finish in 4th place this year, but they had probably the best start for a baseball team in a long time. The Mets were always expected to finish in first, so they performed as expected. Now the actual pennant race/postseason run is going to be very interesting. The Yankees have to likely face the Houston Astros, and for the Mets it’s both the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves. The Braves just wont stop winning and might actually overtake first place in the NL East division, and the Dodgers are the Dodgers, they have been the best team in baseball for at least a decade now. Prediction: the Yankees are going to lose in the first round against whoever wins the wild card game, and the Mets are going to lose in the Championship series against the Dodgers. Both teams are great, but the Mets have been known to blow games, and the Yankees have been cold. We will find out everything soon
