Stand With Women

Women have been fighting for their rights since the beginning of time. Many women’s rights were granted around the world around 1848. Women’s rights are the privileges guaranteed to women and girls around the world. The United States is in the top 30 with women’s rights in the world. Before the 19th amendment, women in the United States were not allowed to vote, they basically had no control over their lives.

Before rights were granted women who were married were overall ¨owned¨ by their husband. They had no property rights, to the extent that they could imprison and or abuse their wife without any consequence. The husband possessed legal authority over and accountability for them. Women who ended up getting a divorce in the past wouldn’t be able to get custody of their children just because they were a woman.

Prior to the granting of their rights, women had a difficult time finding employment since, unlike men, they would have to take time off work to have a baby and then recover. They would also encountered discrimination by men on a regular basis at their workplace. Women have always been discriminated against, but before they had rights it was much worse for them.

Women also did not have the right to vote. They didn’t really have the right to do anything until August 18th, 1920 women could finally vote after the 19th amendment was passed. Today in the United States in the year 2022 there have been many setbacks in women’s rights like their reproductive rights being taken away. Reproductive rights are any legal protections for the right to procreate and maintain reproductive health. This right plays a major role in women’s’ life it consists of the right to have a medical procedure done called an abortion. In the United States and all over the world, this right has already been declared illegal in seventeen states. If this right continues to be taken away in other states women will most likely start to resort to other unhealthy and not approved ways of getting this procedure done. In light of these events, many protests have taken place since then. Women are stronger than ever and will not stop until treated equally.
