Fire at Brooklyn Tech

Fire at Brooklyn Tech

On December 8th, Brooklyn Technical High School, one of the largest high schools in The United States, had a small fire start, and all the students had to evacuate.

Brooklyn Tech High School recently had a fire drill, then many minutes later, they had another fire drill. But this fire drill wasn’t just a drill, but instead it was an actual fire. All teachers and the students were confused, and wondered why there was another fire drill if there was already one that day. All the staff members and students went outside for the second time, and waited. Until they heard from a teacher and many students that there had been a fire in the bathroom. The word got around to everyone and soon people started taking videos, posting them on TikTok and  Snapchat.

Soon, many students started to notice the smoke coming out of the building, and the smell became more distinct. Many started to worry that it was spreading fast, and half of the building would catch fire. Henry Lombari, class of 2023, stated that “the fire alarm was real because I had walked through smoke on the third floor on the southwest side, and everyone around me was freaking out about the smell.”

Then, the fire department stopped the fire from happening and discovered the place and origin of the fire. When they found out, it was in a small bathroom trash can. The fire was contained and was able to be put out in a couple of minutes. They were able to go back inside after 30 minutes or so, though the second floor had to be closed for the rest of the day, due to the smoke residue.

Officials still don’t know who started the fire and the exact time it had been aflame. But everyone is happy and okay due to being safe and following school fire procedures.
