October celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the National Art Honor Society is kicking it with their pink power. On Sunday, October 15, 2017, the National Art Honor Society and other participants walked around the boardwalk of Jones Beach to support women along the ride of Breast Cancer which lives of many innocent women were taken away  ranging from young adults to seniors.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women. As stated by the American Cancer Society “the average risk of a woman in the United States developing breast cancer sometime in her life is about 12%. This means there is a 1 in 8 chance she will develop breast cancer. This also means there is a 7 in 8 chance she will never have the disease”. For that reason, all donations are needed by the American Cancer Society to cure this disease, so women can celebrate many years longer.

The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides against Breast Cancer walk hosted in Jones Beach  is an exciting event to raise money and awareness to finally end it all. All donations and proceedings of the Breast Cancer Walks associated with the American Cancer society goes to fund research, provide free information and support programs for patients and caregivers as well as detect and prevent the early signs of breast cancer. This wonderful walk was an amazing day to spend time with family, friends, and neighbors as well as remember the victims and survivors of Breast Cancer. Schools, teams, groups and individuals came out spread out their word by cheering out for cancer survivors and victims, donating to find a cure, and just have fun. Posters of many lost loved ones were made out to the public, but most of all, the massive crowd flaunted their pink pride all  united to stomp out Breast Cancer.

Isabella Gragnano, a sophomore member of the National Art Honor Society states, “I thought it was inspirational to see all the people walking and fighting to defeat breast cancer.” Around 60,000 people were involved in this walk ranging from big to small. An estimate of 2.5 million dollars was  earned to help this important cause. Food and beverages were provided and animal balloons by the shore was an amazing site for this family-friendly environment. Music and entertainment kept the good vibes going and the National Art Honor Society showed their lindy pride by donating and attending this event. All in all, this amazing event is a great experience to get some exercise, have fun with friends and family and most importantly fight off breast cancer to help save the lives  future and existing patients.
