Review of Slenderman Trailer

The first Slenderman trailer directed by Sylvain White, was released January 3rd of this year. It starts out with four girls being played by Joey King, Annaliese Basso, Jaz Sinclair and Julia Goldani Telles going into the woods and performing the ritual that is said to awake Slenderman, played by Javier Botet. They do it as a joke, not believing in the myth that is Slenderman, but of course if it wasn’t real we wouldn’t have a movie would we?

The myth of Slenderman came around in 2009 when a man named Eric Knudsen created the creature and photoshopped it into the back of a children’s park for a contest. He had no face, tentacles for arms and stood eight feet tall.  There have been many sightings of Slenderman, but the most popular one happened on May 31, 2014. According to accounts, two 12 year olds girls, Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier, lured a fellow classmate, Payton Leutner, into the woods of Waukesha, Wisconsin. That was when they fatally stabbed Leutner 19 times.

The two killers told detectives they had killed Leutner to impress Slenderman and to become his servants. They planned on escaping to his mansion after the killing, which they believed to be located in the Nicolet National forest. “I do hold myself accountable for this and that I will do whatever I have to do to make sure I don’t get any sort of delusion or whatever again,” Weier told the judge, as she sat next to her attorney. “I want everybody involved to know I deeply regret everything that happened that day. I know that nothing I say is going to make this right and nothing I say is going to fix what I broke.”
Although both girls did apologize for what they had done and seemed very sorry, they were still, rightfully so, charged with first degree murder and were sent to a mental institution and remain there to this day.

Luckily, victim Payton Leutner survived the stabbings and escaped from the woods. A bicyclist found her and called 911, where she was then rushed to the hospital. There, a doctor told NBC news, that the knife only missed her heart by a millimeter.  For the next few days Leutner had to use pen and paper to communicate due to damage to her diaphragm.

In the movie, they leave the woods and a few days later one of their classmates goes missing. They fear slender man has taken her and that they are next. Before he captures them he begins to haunt them, torture them and making them behave badly. One girl, as shown in the trailer, ends up stabbing herself in the eye during class.  The movie is said to come out August 24 of 2018!
