IT has been dethroned as king of the box office by Kingsman. Kingsman the Golden Circle the sequel to the 2014 film Kingsman the Secret Service made 39 million opening weekend. Although it’s not king of the box office anymore, IT continues to be monster at the box office taking in another 30 million that brings the grand total to 266.3  million. The 35 million dollar film has already made seven times its budget back and is expected to pass 500 million at the international box office; therefore,  IT  can be considered a bonafide hit.

Next on the list is The Lego Ninjago Movie which made 21.2 million which is well under the projections of 35 million and well under under The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Movie. Coming in fourth we have The American Assassin. It made 6.25 million this week bring the total gross thus far to 26.2  million. Rounding out the top 5 is Home Again, the romcom starring Reese Witherspoon which made 3.3 million. As for international box office War for the Planet of the Apes staying strong in China holding onto first place with 38.92 million which is helping with the lackluster domestic run.

Now let’s talk about the most decisive movie of the year, Mother! This film directed and written by Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream and Noah) is the first film to ever get it’s certified fresh rating revoked on Rotten Tomatoes and it also earned an F grade from people leaving the theater.  For most casual movie goers, the film was just too metaphorical.

Next week we are looking at American Made the story of the CIA biggest secrets starring Tom Cruise, as well as Flatliners, the horror film with Ellen Page. My projections are 15 million and 8 million respectively.
