Lara Sinkus, Staff Writer

Along with the recent iOS 14 update for Apple users, they were granted the ability to customize their home screens however they desire; with the use of fun pictures and widgets to help decorate their home screens! There are many different apps being created for users to use to communicate with others through their home screens. Apps widgets such as drawing widgets and picture widgets have been created for all to enjoy and use.

Locket

Locket is a widget app where users can send photos back and forth to their friends through the widget on their home screen. As your friend takes a picture, you get sent the photo right onto your home screen. A maximum of ten friends can be added to your own personal Locket account.

Ekko

Having similar properties to Locket, Ekko is a perfect alternative. It has the same concept of Locket, adding friends and sending pictures back and forth. Except, it adds a few more features. In Ekko, there are albums where users can like and comment , giving it that more social media aspect and engagement from users. Virtual envelopes can also be sent that users have to open before seeing the photo they were sent.

NoteIt

NoteIt is a widget that allows users to create drawings or notes that you can send to your friends home screen. There are different tools to draw with: a pencil, highlighter, marker, ruler, eraser for mistakes, and a wide variety of colors to select from. All that needs to be done is selecting one friend and sending each other their codes, and from there, let the drawing begin!

Whiteboard

Whiteboard is a combination of both Locket and Noteit. Users can send drawings, notes, pictures, emojis, and already pre-made backgrounds to their friends’ home screens. The widget also allows users to DM each other and find other users nearby, which are social media-like features.
