Netflix is one of the most, if not the most popular streaming devices/platforms there is. Recently, on February 11th, 2022,  they have released a new Netflix Original Series called Inventing Anna. This show is based on a true story about a girl named Anna Sorokin. Sorokin is twenty-six year old Russian-German aspiring entrepreneur who climbed her way up through con and fraud. The series concerns a journalist and reporter, Vivian Kent, played by Anna Chlumsky. She works at Manhattan Magazine in New York City. Vivian seems to have some issues from the past with her career that she is attempting to revive from. She takes her idea about writing a story on Anna Sorokin to her boss and editor. At first, they don’t take her seriously and deny her access to write the story. Vivian decides to look into it anyway. She would stop at nothing to get this story done. She was persistent, determined and through much hard work even while being pregnant, she was able to get it done. She interviewed every person necessary for the story who was close to Anna or in relations with her. She even got to know Anna herself.

Anna is played by a 28 year old actress named Julia Garner. Her story is uncovered throughout the series. We find out about her past, her family, friends, work life, and really how she climbed up that social ladder. Anna came from nothing, and through conning her way up, she changed her name to Anna Delvey, acted as a German heiress with a huge trust fund. She dreamed of creating something of her own, the Anna Delvey Foundation (ADF.) She knew how much money, and effort this was going to take. The scariest part is that she was dangerously close. People had fallen for her lies and manipulation. It wasn’t just people, but huge companies and businesses. However, at some point it all came crashing down. She got caught and she was charged with 15 crimes, 8 of which she was convicted for. She had allegedly scammed banks, hotels, and her very rich acquaintances. The story all leads up to that trial. Her lawyer, Todd, played by Arian Moayed, works with Anna in hopes of convincing the jury that she isn’t guilty. Some of the other main cast members, who play Anna’s closest friends are portrayed by Laverne Cox as Tracy, Katie Lowes as Rachel, and Alexis Floyd as Neff. Their stories are all heavily based on Anna’s real life friends who were affected by her felonies. Anna Delvey is said to have this potent charm about her, where people were attracted to her. She presented herself in a powerful and strong way. Despite the immorality of her actions, you can’t argue that she isn’t an incredibly intelligent woman. This series really highlights how she came to be. As soon as you click that play button, you can’t help but be intrigued!
