Bright Futures in After School Activities
October 19, 2017
If you want to change up your life and stop gaining weight from all the Netflix binging well you are at the right spot. Lindenhurst High School provides a plethora of clubs/activities to join. Regardless of what your interests are, we have a club for almost everything. However, above all else, you should join your grade’s class council. When join Class Council you have the opportunity to make the Homecoming float , decorate the hallways for Halloween and Christmas, and also join in on Class Wars. Joining Class Council gives you an opportunity to meet people in your grade and build new relationships while showing your school spirit. Go Lindy Pride!
If you enjoy talking and have strong opinions, I highly advise you to join the debate club which is advised by Ms. Dowd. This will give you an opportunity to make new friends and use your public speaking skills, a tool you’ll use for the rest of your life. Joining NHS (National Honor Society) is also a great option for your college transcript as well as your future. When being a member of NHS you will develop a strong leadership role that can only be accomplished through experience that NHS provides. Although this club is restricted for upperclassmen only, it isn’t impossible to join if you have the charisma and heart. President Sahil Kapoor says “ National Honor Society is a great club because the work you put in is rewarding and we help out the community a lot. It also looks great for college applications.”
High school students are required to take some sort of fine arts elective…so why not join choir, band, or orchestra? The beauty of these three classes is that they’re not just fine arts electives, they’re also clubs! Most high school choirs, bands and orchestras have retreats, give performances, and even go on trips. Doesn’t that sound like a fun, enriching experience? Not convinced? Did I mention that studies show that students involved in music education tend to receive higher grades? Theater is much like choir, band and orchestra, in that it is both a class and a club! In addition to learning the fundamentals of acting in the classroom, you’ll be given the opportunity to audition for your school’s theater productions. The drama club meets every Monday in the auditorium and you can talk to the president of the club, Andrew Paolillo for any further questions. Key Club is a great club for high school students who are passionate about helping others. You will take part in several fun service projects aimed at bettering their community. There are various clubs and activities that can be joined at LHS, so go out there and join a club.
