The Unbearable Weight of Nicolas Cage’s Massive Talent

Rating: 8.5/10

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is a surprisingly good action-comedy. Going into it, there’s a limited expectation thanks to a fluctuation of quality in that genre. But Nicolas Cage, starring as himself, and Pedro Pascal bounce off each other’s energy, creating an enticing dynamic that keeps the audience wanting for more.

When ‘Nick Cage’ gets a call from his agent with an offer for a million dollar job, it turns out it’s an invitation to a wealthy man’s birthday party. When he gets to Spain, he meets Javi (Pascal), who turns out to be his biggest fan. Throughout the movie, Nick deals with his own image and his new friendship with this mysterious billionaire. The movie also deals with Nick’s relationship with his daughter and not quite being the actor he once was.

Overall, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is a surprisingly good time. There’s some dull moments but all in all, the jokes landed, and it was a very enjoyable movie. Nicolas Cage was lovely, but Pedro Pascal shined as his co-star, truly raising the dynamic of Nick and Javi. There’s also a moment that all fans of the 2017 movie Paddington 2 will love, and a lot of jokes for older audiences. One of the best parts of the movie was how the humor wasn’t dumbed down or repetitive, and it wasn’t for any specific audience– just for people looking for an enjoyable time.
