NCT 127’s “2 Baddies” New Album Review
October 17, 2022
Have you listened to NCT 127’s new comeback, or have been dying to and wanted to hear what each song is like? Then you have come across the right page!! NCT 127 is a unit from the K-pop band NCT, and is a fixed unit, meaning the members won’t be leaving anytime soon! There are 9 members total, including Taeyong (the leader of the group), Johnny, Mark, Taeil, Yuta, Jungwoo, Doyoung, Haechan, and Jaehyun. This is their newest comeback and album, which consists of 12 tracks, having a variety of genres all in one. The album is almost like a package deal if you think about it! “2 Baddies,” a song that is a lot like noise music is the title track, and it has a lot going on. Overall, all of the components come together to form a great song that you can definitely vibe with. It has a hyper pop and psychedelic feel to its concept. Additionally, their music video for this song dropped on September 16th, 2022. There are several other B sides that we will dive into later on!!
For now, I want to draw all of your attention to the physical album versions they came out with following the album release. The “Faster” version is on the left, and it has a sleek black and white look to it in comparison to the “2 Baddies” version which has the colorful, psychedelic, and trippy vibe that the music video has. Both of the albums have various inclusions such as photo cards that you can pull at random of any of the members, a photo book with photos of the boys and the props that come together to form a concept, and a CD. The CDs and photocards are different and have distinct looks depending on which version you purchase! Plus, if you buy the albums at target, you get an additional target exclusive photocard.
While the title track, “2 Baddies,” as well as the music video have a lot going on when it comes to the vocals, lighting, appearance, and composition, the rest of the songs are tamer. There are 11 other tracks or “B-sides”! Their titles are “Faster,” “Time Lapse,” “Crash Landing,” “Designer,” “Gold Dust,” “Black Clouds,” “Playback,” “Tasty,” “LOL,” and “1,2,7(time stops).” Each track has a great vibe to it and is bound to catch your eye, so take a listen!! The album is available now on Spotify and Apple Music.
“Faster” is the first track on the album, giving the album an overall hype start with a beat you can party to. The song has a trap feel to it along with house or electro music. It truly is a song you can enjoy yourself with, maybe even something you can hype yourself up with! All of the beats in the song come together to form an amazing beat drop and finishes off leaving you in an energized and daring mood.
“Time Lapse” is a lot more chill in comparison to “Faster,” and is almost a direct contrast to it. This song is more of one you would jam out to when you’re relaxing, maybe as a simple enjoyable tune to play with friends over. It really is a song for everyone and has unique and interesting sound effects in the song that enhance it. The high notes in it are also amazing!!!! It really is just a very peaceful song.
Next up is “Crash Landing,” and if I were to compare it to “Faster” and “Time Lapse,” I’d say it’s a good in-between. “Crash Landing” has a sirenical opening, yet while the song plays and the listeners get closer to the chorus, NCT 127 still finds a way to hype up their listeners. Despite the initial start of the song being tranquil, the song eventually builds up to a fun and groovy listen. However, “Faster” is definitely still the loudest and most energetic, which really throws the listeners in for a fun time.
“Designer” is the track following “Crash Landing,” and right away listeners can hear the similarity to “Faster’s” opening. It has a similar tune and also embodies an energetic opening that will have you dancing. However, “Designer” is not a track that you would play while working on schoolwork, because you’ll end up being on your feet practically a minute in. The chorus is fun, catchy, and easy to sing along to! It is the perfect song to blast with the windows down on the freeway and lose yourself to.
Following “Designer” is “Gold Dust,” which immediately starts off with a showcase of absolutely wonderful vocals. There is a simplicity and calming feeling, in the opening which goes a long way in this song, allowing each of the boys time to shine and even has some beautiful harmonizing. This song is definitely the most laid back and relaxing, truly a song to play in the background while getting something done, as it is not as loud and complex as other tracks on this album, and it definitely does not leave you unable to focus. Instead, “Gold Dust” is a very sweet and tranquil song, making it a great song to vibe to!
Besides these, there are a few more tracks from the “2 Baddies” album, those being “Black Clouds” and “Playback”!! “Black clouds” has a Lo-fi feel, and it sounds like a song you would without a doubt find on a “chill mix” playlist or even a live Lo-fi mix. It is another track, similar to “Gold Dust,” where you hear the members each having their own time to sing and definitely having their time to shine. Despite “Black Clouds” being only 3 minutes and 39 seconds long for nine members to each have a part, the line distribution is fantastic. “Playback” certainly has a more lively feel, and it breaks the trend of having a peaceful sensation that the other songs follow. For it being the first hyped-up song, it does not disappoint, including a lot of rap along with great high notes and a fun chorus. “Playback” really wakes up listeners and causes them to have fun.
The final four tracks are exceptionally memorable and fun. “Tasty” is super energizing and has great raps, allowing the members to showcase their talents in this area. “Tasty” will have you bobbing your head to the beat the whole time! “Vitamin” has a retro feel, almost like a song you would hear on a beachy vacation, making it a great summer song to enjoy while basking in the sun. Overall, “Vitamin” has a very fun and easygoing vibe. “LOL” has the exact same vibe as “Vitamin”, as it is also a very fun and easy song to listen to. The last track, “1,2,7(time stops),” also has a retro feel, and almost has a reminiscence of hyper pop. Importantly, this song also really shows off each member’s vocals.
