The Comeback of Books

Lara Sinkus, Social Media Director, Entertainment Editor, Staff Writer

Books making a comeback? What? Where? When? Why? Books are something that have become lost as the generations become more indulged in technology. Books have been replaced for entertainment such as television, YouTube, and social media. Yet recently, there has been an observed increase in the use of books, as well as the activity of reading that comes along with it. A typical child or teenager might react to the topic of reading as simply,” Ew!” Yet, as reading becomes promoted in the media that they follow, it has recently become a more popular topic once again.

A large platform that has promoted reading has been Tik Tok. Author, Colleen Hoover, has begun trending on the social media platform. Her book It Ends With Us, is her most popular book being paraded around social media at the moment. Some smaller books by her such as Verity and Ugly Love have appeared as well, especially in the audience of teenage girls. Waves of books known by many that have been skipped over for movie versions, for example, The Harry Potter Series, have become widely popular within the years as well. As well as the actual comeback of the classics, Pride and Prejudice, The Great Gatsby, and Wuthering Heights. The catch is, books are being read digitally, not only on paperback. Apps are also present to help readers keep track of what they are reading, what they would like to read, and what they have read. A very efficient app used to keep track is Goodreads

Plenty of stores are selling paperback versions of books, but as technology becomes more accessible, books are becoming digitized. Devices specific to reading, Nooks and Kindles, have grown popular recently, being sold accessible by all through companies such as Amazon. Apple devices can be used as well for reading, through various apps and websites. Books can be purchased on iTunes, or even borrowed virtually through your public library. Another deal that is displayed for retrieving books virtually is with Kindle Unlimited. Kindle Unlimited is $9.99 a month, where you can choose to pick out various books, and obtain up to ten books at a time. The overall comeback of reading is very pleasant, as reading provides an opportunity for the reader to delve deeper into a whole new territory. All in all, recently reading has made a major comeback in the world of the media.
