Imagine sitting at a MLB game, and right next to you a person is creepily smiling without moving an inch. Scary, right? Well, this is the way they are advertising for a new horror film, Smile, being distributed by Paramount Pictures. Smile was released in theaters on September 30, 2022. This movie stars Jessie T. Usher and Sosie Bacon. It is directed by Parker Finn. 

Baseball fans who were at the games, or watching from home noticed people in the stands. These people appeared to be standing up and smiling in a very eerie way. A viewer of an MLB game wrote on Twitter, “I’m really trying to relax at this ball game, but I feel like I’m an extra in a horror movie,”. 

With Halloween around the corner, many viewers of the game were spooked with what was going on. Many people on social media were talking about what was happening at the baseball games. These posts began to go viral on Tik Tok, Twitter, and more social media platforms. Viewers began to realize it wasn’t only one smiling person, but there were multiple. There was soon to be an explanation that would cure everyone’s curiosity. 

These frightening people were actors who were promoting this new horror film. No matter how disturbing these actors were to MLB fans, this was a revolutionary marketing idea. When these actors went viral all over the internet, it made people curious about what was going on. Then, when people researched it and found out it had to do with the upcoming movie Smile, interest in the movie spiked. All of this talk about the film will increase the movie’s popularity and how many people go to see it. Paramount did an excellent job thinking of this promotional idea.
