Don’t Worry Darling Review
October 13, 2022
The long anticipated film, Don’t Worry Darling, directed by Olivia Wilde, showcased in theaters on September 23, 2022. The psychological thriller stars Florence Pugh, an incredible 29 year old English actress, playing the leading role of Alice. Florence’s co-star, Harry Styles, the former member of the boyband One Direction and the flourishing musician, played the role of Alice’s husband, Jack Chambers.
Don’t Worry Darling takes place in the 1950’s where Alice and Jack live in an idealized community called Victory. In Victory, the men set out to work every day on a top secret project run by a man named Frank, who was portrayed by Chris Pine. While the men go out every day, the wives stay home cleaning and cooking for their husbands and enjoying the luxury of this seemingly perfect lifestyle. However, after noticing some skeptical activities, Alice begins questioning her life in Victory and what’s really going on. The women are not allowed past certain grounds, however when Alice began “hallucinating” she felt compelled to go find out what was happening there. Little did she know what a turn her mundane life would take from then on.
Other members of the cast include Nick Kroll, Gemma Chan, Kiki Layne, Asif Ali, and Sydney Chandler. Not only did Olivia Wilde direct the movie, she also played the part of Bunny, Alice’s best friend in Victory. Surprisingly, the movie has a 6.3/10 IMDB score and a 63% rotten tomatoes score. Many people had been awaiting this film for a while, so when it first came out and it began getting bad reviews, people were confused.
The reason many people had mixed feelings about the film may have been because there were many loose ends left to tie up through imagination and theories. Another reason is that fans are speculating that there had been some drama behind the scenes with the cast members, however everyone seemed to act pretty professional about it. The movie was thrilling and it was exciting to see the plot twists. It sparks so much conversation because it is so intriguing to connect the dots throughout the movie. Both, Florence and Harry, were spectacular– especially for this only being Harry Styles’ second role in his acting career. Don’t Worry Darling is already out in theaters so go watch it to determine for yourself if it’s being underrated or not!
