Leadership Honor Scholarship
Mr.+Farnham

Mr. Farnham

Mr. Farnham is a new addition to the LHS staff. He has been with Lindenhurst for all of his life, but he has just begun teaching here this year. I had the pleasure of interviewing him in order to learn more about him and welcome him to this school. He has many interests, which you will see based on what he has stated during our interview. I asked him many questions on a variety of topics, and he has answered them all below!

Who (or what) inspired you to become a teacher?

I was inspired to become a teacher by many of the teachers I had as a student. Since I am a former Lindenhurst graduate, I am in a unique position where many of the teachers that inspired me to pursue this profession are now my colleagues. If I named every teacher that inspired me, my answer would be way too long. However, I do want to give a special shoutout to Mrs. Kannavos and Mrs. Dragotta!

What’s your favorite thing about teaching?

I love teaching English because I have always loved reading and writing. However, my favorite thing about teaching is building a rapport with my students. Teaching is unique in that it is one of the only professions where you get to build relationships with so many different people over the course of your career. As a teacher, I consider myself a life-long learner because I am constantly learning from my students as well. Whether it is a new perspective on the literature we are discussing or a new slang term that is popular, I am always finding out new things each day.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I am a huge horror movie fan and I enjoy playing video games in my free time. I also like to read sci-fi, fantasy and horror stories. Basically, I am a huge nerd.

What’s your favorite film/tv show, and why?

Tough question. Although I love the whole trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is my favorite. It is the start of an amazing journey and has drama, comedy, action, romance, good vs. evil, friendship, etc. What more could you ask for in a movie?

What do you like best about Lindenhurst/LHS?

As I mentioned, I am a former Lindenhurst graduate and I also have lived in Lindenhurst my whole life. One thing I love about this town and school is the emphasis on community. Whenever any sort of issue arises that is impacting an individual or a group, the community always shows up in support. In my lifetime, I can remember numerous times where the town and school have rallied behind a particular cause. I think that’s what makes Lindenhurst so great!

What’s your favorite Star Wars movie and why is it your favorite?

My favorite Star Wars movie is Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. As a kid, and I am aging myself a bit here, I watched the VHS of that movie so many times that I broke it. I love the Battle of Hoth and spoiler alert, the revelation that Darth Vader is Luke’s father. That scene is so iconic. Also, one of my favorite lines is when Princess Leia tells Han Solo she loves him and he simply replies, “I know.” It’s perfect!
