As the year of 2022 comes to an end, we begin to look forward to the new year ahead of us. We look to have a fresh start with both ourselves and what we watch. Ahead are some projects that are coming out this year.

One of the first Marvel projects to start off Phase 5 is Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Many people are excited to see Paul Rudd return as the beloved superhero, Ant-Man. This movie is filled with many returning MCU actors among these are: Evangeline Lilly, Michelle Pfeiffer, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Douglas, and Micheal Pena. With new faces like Kathyrn Newton and Bill Murray. In the trailer, we see Cassie, Ant-Man’s daughter, testing a new invention that interacts with the Quantum Realm but it malfunctions, getting everyone thrown into the Quantum Realm. While there, they interact with strange new creatures and embark on an adventure they could not have expected when first going in. This movie is set to release on February 17, 2023.

Another exciting project happening in 2023, is The Little Mermaid live action. It is a classic retelling of the original movie by Disney. The cast includes: Halle Bailey as Ariel, Melissa McCarthy, Simone Ashley, Jacob Tremblay, and Daveed Diggs. The Little Mermaid is brought to life in this retelling. The story of Ariel falling in love with the world above water and a prince, but trades her beautiful voice for human legs to go and explore. This movie is expected to be released on May 23, 2023.

Another installment is being created for the Scream franchise. It is set to be released on March 10, 2023. Scream 6 follows the events of Scream 5.  Sam and Tara, who are sisters, along with their friends, Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin, leave Woodsboro in attempt to get away from their troubled past. As they’re in New York City, they are still being followed by Ghostface. Many returning faces are a part of the cast, along with Courtney Cox, Jenna Ortega, and Melissa Barrera. The star of the franchise, Neve Campbell, will not be returning for the sixth installment. With many people returning and leaving there are many new faces: Samara Weaving, Devyn Nekoda, and Tony Revolori.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is another superhero movie coming out in 2023. After much critical acclaim from the first, people have been anticipating a second one. Cast members include: Shameik Moore, Oscar Issac, Hailee Steinfeld, and Jake Johnson. After reuniting with Gwen, Miles Morales is sent across the Multiverse, where he encounters many different spider-people. One team is specifically in charge of protecting the existence of the Spider-Verse. However, when the heroes start to clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders. He must learn what it means to be a hero to save the people he loves.

Besides movies, there are also many shows returning for a new season, as well as new ones coming to our screens. One is season two of Ginny and Georgia. The new season premiered on January 5, on Netflix. It is picking up right from where season one left off, with Ginny running away with her brother. This season will show Ginny adapting to the new dynamics in her life after losing all of her friends, Georgia’s new husband, and coping with her own personal struggles. Georgia is still reflecting on her past while not trying to get caught up with the law. Cast members Antonia Gentry and Brianne Howey, are returning.

A new Netflix show is appearing on the platform in 2023.  It is an On My Block spinoff,  called Freeridge. Freeridge is set to premiere on February 2, 2023. The premise of the show is similar to On My Block; a group of teens start a new adventure, but while doing so, many consequences follow them along the way. In this show, we are going to be introduced to many new faces such as: Ciara Riley Wilson, Tenzing Norgay Trainor, and many others.

Even though 2022 was a great year for film and television, many people are anticipating the arrival of what is to come in the new year. With the new year approaching, we will be able to see more from our favorite actors and what they have been working hard on!
