In 2022, numerous exceptional movies were released that deserve recognition. A clear favorite by many families due to its appropriateness, comedy, and nostalgia is: Minions: The Rise of Gru. The movie’s success can be exemplified by the 934.4 million USD it grossed at the box office. For comparison purposes, the original Despicable Me movie grossed about 543.2 million USD.

Still starring comedic actor Steve Carell as Gru, this movie shows the audience: the story of Gru’s childhood, how he met Dr. Nefario and the minions, and what path he took that led him to be the supervillain he eventually became.

The movie makes it clear that Gru was always obsessed with being evil, despite getting made fun of because of it. In fact, it is implied that this drove him even further in pursuing his dream to be a supervillain.

Early in the movie, Gru finds just the opportunity that he was so desperately looking for and has the chance to join a group known as the Vicious 6. Unfortunately, when they meet him in person for an interview and realize that he is a child, he is laughed at. The situation escalates from here, in which Gru ends up being chased by the group as he befriends and is guided by the group’s old leader.

Overall, it is understandable why Minions: The Rise of Gru is so popular and loved by the public, despite the fact that it was only rated a 6.6 on IMDB. Additionally, it is definitely a must-watch if you loved the original movie!
