As major league baseball gets closer to playoffs and the world series, the fight to secure a playoff spot is desperately needed. 8 teams battle in 4 wild card pairs. The Texas Rangers were set up against the Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota Twins against the Toronto Blue Rays, Arizona Diamondbacks against the Wisconsin Brewers, and the Philadelphia Phillies against the Miami Marlins. These teams were set to play a series of best of three games, but every pairing ended in a sweep of two games. The Texas Rangers swept the Tampa Bay Rays in two games with scores of 7-1 and 4-0. The Minnesota Twins swept the Blue Jays in two games with scores of 3-1 and 2-0. With scores of 5-2 and 6-3 the Diamondbacks swept the Wisconsin Brewers. The Philadelphia Phillies sweep the Miami Marlins in scores of 4-1, and 7-1. These teams all completing sweeps to claim their wild card positions is extremely impressive, and usually doesn’t happen to every team across the board. These 8 teams making it to the wild card games and October baseball is already impressive, but the 4 teams moving onto the playoffs in their division is even more impressive and thrilling for their fans. The playoffs will put a lot of pressure on these teams, all in a battle to make it past the playoffs, and hopefully to the world series. As October baseball furthers, the more pressure the teams and fans will feel, waiting anxiously to see how the cards will unfold for their favorite teams. Some of these teams have made it to playoffs in recent years, but some teams have created a new milestone for their teams, such as making the playoffs for the first time in 20+ years, making new day history.
