It’s a new year, which means new fashion events! Each year, hundreds of fashion weeks are held all across the globe but the most known are the “Big Four”, which are Paris Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week, and New York Fashion Week. Fashion weeks are week-long fashion industry events that showcase designers’ and brands’ newest collections in runway shows. These shows attract buyers, celebrities, top models, media, and of course fashion designers. They are meant to influence the latest fashion trends for the upcoming seasons.
In the “Big Four” fashion capitals (New York, London, Milan, and Paris), fashion week occurs twice a year, once in February and once in September. In these fashion capitals, the fashion weeks are back to back, spanning across 4 weeks in total starting in New York, and ending in Paris. Popular brands such as Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Fendi, Burberry, Giorgio Armani, CHANEL, Dior, Valentino, and more are showcased through these big fashion weeks. Their collections, models, and designers are all brought along for the luxurious events and have much preparation to make sure everything goes smoothly.
London Fashion Week 2024: February 16-February 20 & September 15-September 19
Milan Fashion Week 2024: February 20-February 26 & September 17-23
Paris Fashion Week 2024: February 28-March 5 & September 23-October 1
This year, NYFW took place from February 9 to February 14 and will soon take place from September 13 to September 15. The show in February showcased the Winter/Autumn collections for 2024 and in September, the show will feature the Spring/Summer collections for 2025. Top designers such as Marc Jacobs, Micheal Kors, Tom Ford, and Proenza Schouler were presented and their collections were featured through not only runways but also private appointments and presentations. In New York we saw Blake Lively, Julia Fox, Emma Roberts, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sam Smith, Janet Jackson, and many more seated in the front row.Besides the official runway schedule for NYFW, there are many industry events, fashion exhibits, and parties happening around the city. Top celebrities and fashion influencers can attend these events and attract other audiences as well.
Fashion weeks bring people together to celebrate community and individuality. Fashion is a common interest, hobby, and career among many and it is recognized for its iconic events. New York Fashion Week has formed the modern American fashion industry and created a global platform for many brands and designers to share their art. Upcoming on May 6, the annual Met Gala will take place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Stars Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, and Bad Bunny are this year’s co-chairs and will join Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. The 2024 Met Gala theme is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” and the official dress code is “The Garden of Time”.
