Stand Out Pitcher Wins it All!

Justin Verlander has become the stand out star of the year and has clearly proven to be a key component for the Astros; they have finally won a World Series title since 1962. He is a new pitcher for the Astros and was obtained by them from the Tigers. In order for this trade to happen, the Tigers wanted Franklin Perez, Jake Rodgers and Daz Cameron from the Astros minor league team. “There’s so much history in Detroit for me,” he said. “I grew up in front of those fans. They’ll always have a special place in my heart and I’ve had a lot of love from Detroit since I left and I’ve appreciated all of it and I think they understand and I think everybody understands it.” The Tigers are really at a loss with this one because Verlander has now been named the best pitcher in the American League. After the the World Series, he didn’t have time to celebrate with the team; he had to go get married to model, Kate Upton.

Not only was Verlander a stand out in these pivotal games; Altuve  most definitely contributed everything he had into winning these games. Altuve got the final out in game 7, which was the moment he knew they had won. He also hit 2 home runs; one in game 3 which was in the 20th and caused them to win the game. The other homerun was hit during game 5 and got 3 runs out of it. This home run tied the game and was extremely important to the win of this game, which was very close.

Many sports officials are saying that game 5 is one of the best and craziest games in recent history. The game had 10 innings and lasted for 5 hours and 17 minutes. The final score was 13-12, therefore extremely close. This is because both teams are amazing and wanted that World Series title. Not only was this game a win for the Astros, it put them over the edge. If they won the sixth game the next day, they would’ve won the whole thing. Obviously, they ended up not winning the 6th game and were defeated by the Dodgers 3-1.

The Dodgers were obviously pretty bummed, however they were very proud of themselves for even making it that far. The defeated the Cubs and the D-backs to just get to the World Series and that was a big accomplishment because they all know they worked extremely hard. “I told them how much there is to be proud of,” Roberts, the manager of the Dodgers, recalls telling his team in a post-game press conference. “We fell short, but we accomplished a lot this season. It was great to see our guys come together as a team, as a special group of men.”

The scores of all 7 games really reflected both teams work ethic. There were no zeros in any of the scores, which shows us how badly both teams wanted to win and how much they both deserved it.
