The start of this October hasn’t been a good start when it comes to movies. Some of the most recent films have been making much less at the box office than the budget spent. Films like “Joker Folie á Deux” by Warner Bros. opened with $40 million dollars in the box office. With a budget of $200 million, this much-anticipated film is considered a flop. Alongside “Joker 2” came “Megalopolis” by Lionsgate, opening with $1 million dollars in the box office. This is another example of a film that grossed less than it cost to make. Most of the films in this early season have mostly been rated low, with the exception of “Transformers One” by Paramount Pictures, which has ratings of 89% to as high as 98% from multiple critics.
“Transformers One” was the movie that the series has needed after the previous “Transformers Rise of the Beasts,” which flopped in the box office, earning bad ratings as low as 51% on Rotten Tomatoes. This movie seems to have delivered, with the story focusing on the origins of Megatron and the fall of Cybertron. The movie is well-liked with fans and critics, making it one of the better movies of this year. Despite the movie being highly-rated, it still managed to do badly at the box office, earning around $50 million dollars domestically, with a budget of $75 million dollars. This can be attributed to the marketing strategy and the failure to show enough of the actual plot of the movie in trailers.
This may have already made people think negatively about what was to come in this movie, causing them to lose interest in seeing it. Some might think that the movie is just trying to branch out to younger audiences since the original “Transformers” movies have been rebooted. The movie would have done better if it showed more of the actual story in the trailers, thereby being interesting enough to get all types of people to watch it.
