The movie We Live in Time is a romance written by Nick Payne, and directed by John Crowley. It was released on October 18th, and has a duration of 1 hour and 47 minutes. Florence Pugh plays “Almut”, and Andrew Garfield plays “Tobias.”
The movie shows a life based in the United Kingdom and displays the gift of cherishing small moments, and not taking life for granted. Almut is displayed as an up and coming chef, who has previously competed. Tobias is shown to the audience as recently divorced, and kind hearted. When the two are faced with a mishap that involves them both, they quickly fall in love, which eventually leads to engagement.
The movie has numerous time jumps, and displays many of the life challenges the two face. The movie shows us Almut being diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and being unsure of the treatment options she was given. She soon realizes that she would rather have 6 months of living life to the fullest, rather than feeling terrible for an extended period of time, and becoming sicker. Since Almut has become weaker, she is suggested to rest, and take an extended break from work. Soon after her diagnosis, she is invited to compete in a cooking competition. She accepts without telling Tobias.
As the movie progresses, doctors suggest that she should have a partial or full hysterectomy, to which she chooses partial. Almut begins to open up to the idea of having a child, even though she was previously against the thought of children. Almut and Tobias have a daughter named Ella. We Live in Time comes to an end showing us the cooking competition, which Almut leaves early to spend time with her family. After seeing the family together, we realize that the final time jump does not include Almut. This is the sad but needed reminder that we as people live in the present, no matter the amount of time we are given.
