NASA’s prior explorations of the deep sea have sparked interest in people throughout the world. The public becomes particularly interested when it comes to why the company shifted its focus from the sea onto space exploration. This shift in exploration has brought up a large amount of conspiracy theories, such as NASA finding creatures in the deep seas and becoming scared to continue their exploration. These theories aren’t entirely correct.
Since their shift in focus, NASA has continued their explorations of the sea. The oceans on our planet haven’t been explored in their entirety just yet; according to various articles, as of June 2024, only around 26% of the ocean has been explored. This number is not very significant, as the ocean takes up about 71% of our earth.
NASA has made various discoveries regarding our oceans, one being the harmful impacts of global warming on the ocean. Increasing global temperatures can affect everyone and everything on our planet, including our sea levels. With the rapid increase in temperatures on Earth, NASA exclaims that the ocean levels will rise at the rate of 0.13 inches per year.
NASA still explores and considers the ocean because it helps their understanding in other areas of study. By knowing more about our Earth and environment, scientists can get a better understanding about bodies of water and their possible presence in planets similar to Earth.
NASA will continue their extensive research on our deep seas to hopefully make new conclusions about our Earth and information about other planets within our solar system.
