On November 30th, the Los Angeles shocked the baseball world once again by signing 2-time CY Young award winner Blake Snell to a 5 year 182 million dollar deal. After Snell botched his free agency last year and ended up signing a 2 year, 64 million dollar contract with the San Francisco Giants in mid March, Snell knew he had to prove himself in order to get the contract he deserved.
After a very shaky first half which saw Snell have a 6.31 ERA at the all star break, he turned it around completely in the second half pitching to a 1.45 ERA and stabilizing himself as the best pitcher in the second half and one of the best pitchers in the league by the end of the season. Snell went into free agency proving that he is worth the contract he wants after finishing 2024 with a 3.12 ERA and 145 strikeouts in 20 games pitched
But after the signing the Mets just made, maybe the Dodgers will finally be dethroned?
The Juan Soto sweepstakes are over, as the Mets swooped in and signed him for an obscene 15 year $765 million dollar contract. Soto is now the highest paid player in professional sports history, surpassing Ohtani’s 10 year $700 million dollar contract he signed with the Dodgers last offseason.
Hopefully Juan Soto knows that he made the Mets the new enemy of the league as well as himself. The Mets now have a target on their back, and with Soto having an opt out in his contract in 2029, (He will 100% opt out to try and get more money) the Mets have to win a ring by the year 2029 or all of these signings were for nothing.
