The month of November didn’t see many releases of big triple A games. However, on December 6th, Marvel Rivals by NetEase Games was released. The game consists of iconic Marvel superheroes and villains, with players being able to play as them in a hero/class shooter PvP style game. The beta version of the game was released from July 23rd to August 5th, and allowed players to experience the early version of the game.
Most of the game’s style seems to take from games like Overwatch and Overwatch 2, except with different class of characters. The most recent hero shooter PvP game like this one was Concord, which wasn’t received well by players. The game failed as a result. The players that have played Overwatch were not all fans of the sequel and its current state either. Most players think of the sequel as having goals that were never reached, such as PvE mode.
Overwatch 2 recently launched an update where they reverted back to the original game mode to keep players on the game. Now that less people are paying attention to this game, Marvel Rivals has a good chance of gaining popularity.
As of now, Marvel Rivals will be Overwatch 2’s biggest competitor. The game was set to release with 33 different characters, where most were shown in trailers prior to the release. The biggest selling point of the game appears to be the way NetEase Games implements the comic book characters into different classes and grants them unique individual arsenals.
Time will tell how much the popularity of Marvel Rivals will grow!
